About
Our philosophy is based on the principle that wines are made in the vineyard. Careful vineyard selection is therefore key to our results. Very close relationships with growers ensure sustainable vineyard practices and deliver consistent quality in the bottle. The role of the viticulturist is to guide our growers to produce the best possible quality fruit. We have access to some of the finest certified old vineyard blocks (older than 35 years) in the industry. This segment of our business is becoming particularly interesting and we strive to keep these vines in the ground.

A humble bottle of Bukettraube from the Agter Paarl region lured me into the world of wine and I have walked in my Master’s footsteps since. He did it with water, I have to rely on good fruit to make friends, family and fellow winos smile. Capturing sunshine in a bottle is a privilege, stewarding years of investment and enduring hard work from the grower and mingling it with a touch cellar saltiness to bring an honest representation and the story of every vintage.

Marius Sr Born and bred on a sheep farm in the beautiful Bushmanland between Springbok and Pofadder soil was instilled in my DNA from kin. Following in my father’s footsteps, who learned his crafts from the legendary Paul Roos, I left my heartland to go to Stellenbosch for schooling and university of life. Wine became the substitute for sheep farming and except for a short stint in the South African Navy during my National Service years, I never left Stellenbosch again. Here I also met my soul mate, Emma who shared my passion and love for wine. I joined the wine industry during 1991 and spent 14 years in the corporate side of the Industry before starting Signature Brands in 2005. The first Roodekrantz wines were released in 2015. Since 2018 we became part of the Old Vineyard project which closed the loop back to the soil and vineyards.
Marius Jr Wine is sacred to me, bread on the table with laughter and stories about the harvest. It is a language about love. Wine is a gift from our Father that symbolises unity and friendship. A toast to an never ending adventure one glass at a time.
