About

Miles Mossop Wines was established in 2004 with the vision to create wines unique in character, expressing the true nature of South Africa and the sites from which the grapes are sourced. It is a family business with Miles Mossop as winemaker and viticulturist. The Family wines are named after Miles and Samantha Mossop’s three children. Production is limited to 60 tons in total which results in 1800 cases of white, 1600 cases of red and a tiny amount of dessert wine being produced. These are truly handcrafted wines showing pure fruit expression and, more importantly, a sense of place.

Miles Mossop

Mossop is an alumnus of Wynberg Boys’ High and a double BSc graduate from Stellenbosch University. He obtained his degree in viticulture and oenology in 1998, graduating top of the class, having completed a geology and geochemistry degree in 1995. A student practical spell at Spice Route was followed by a stint with Gyles Webb at Thelema. In 1999 he spent a vintage at the prestigious Knappstein winery in Clare, South Australia, then did a tasting stint in France before heading to Napa for a season at show winery Far Niente. “At Far Niente I learnt to do things clinically in the extreme. It was a much more structured approach than at Knappstein. A great experience,” says Mossop. In 2000 he joined TOKARA were he has completed 18 harvests thus far. Miles was made a member of the prestigious Cape winemakers Guild in 2012 and has more recently become Chairman. He and his wife Samantha produce their own wine under the brand Miles Mossop wines and they have named them after three children, Saskia, Max and Kika. Mossop is passionate about surfing, fishing and wine in all its guises.
