Semi-desert Klein Karoo climatic region - substantial diurnal shifts swings during growing season & vintages, rainfall erratic and non-seasonal. This is an intermediary marginal climatic zone for the cultivation of grapes & the confluence of three biomes - namely, Cape fynbos, Karoo scrubland & succulent Karoo
Soil Type
Highly weathered alluvial deposits from the Swartberg mountain formations (schist based) with substrate alluvial gallets, bands of calcium carbonate deposit, deep red/yellow clay & good seepage water due to the proximity to the Nel's river.
Vinification
Hand harvested at dawn, destemmed & crushed into horizontal basket press, skin contact for 36 hours before gentle pressing. Cold settled, racked off with fine lees & fortified with pure wine spirit. Left on lees for five months prior to racking, filtration & bottling
