Owned by the Roos Family, the Mooiplaas vineyards lie on the steep slopes of ancient, mineral rich soils in the cool, sunny Bottelary Hills of Stellenbosch. We produce a range of Environmentally Friendly Wines rooted in tradition and artisan techniques to reflect our unique terroir.
We do not use pre-emergent herbicide or harmful insecticides in our vinyards, respecting the sensitivity of the natural ecosystem. Our grapes are all harvested by hand, as this allows an extra step of quality control in the production process.

Bertus Basson & Louis Roos
In 2017 Mooiplaas appointed Bertus Basson as winemaker with owner Louis Roos assuming the role as cellarmaster. With more than 10 years of wine making experience Bertus is set to take Mooiplaas' wines to new heights.
Viticulturist
Tielman Roos
With 40 years' experience as viticulturist and owner, Tielman Roos knows Mooiplaas' terroir better than anyone else. With a keen passion for nature and wine, Tielman oversees the environmentally friendly farming practices used on Mooiplaas and ensures that only the best quality grapes make it from vine to cellar. In 1995 he and his wife, Janine, registered the Mooiplaas Private Nature Reserve . The 70ha reserve forms part of the greater Bottelary Hills Renosterveld Conservancy of which Tielman is the chairman. Tielman is also an avid tennis player, enjoys camping and rowing the Orange River once per year.
