Paserene Wines

Martin Smith is the winemaker and co-owner of Paserene with business partner Ndabe Mareda. The name derives from the Latin Passeriformes, the type of bird that includes swifts, swallows and martins; all birds that follow the epic migration from Europe to South Africa. Nowadays, he is based on a farm in Tulbagh where he has begun planting Cabernet Sauvignon among other cultivars, whilst also making minimal intervention and terroir driven wines from their neighbours farm in Tulbagh and exceptional sites in Stellenbosch and Elgin. One can also visit their beautiful tasting room in Franschhoek.
