About
Opstal Estate’s rich history dates back to 1847 when JC Rossouw acquired the farm De Opstal bij de Fonteine. Today, Opstal has a range of quality estate wines under three different labels with Chenin blanc being our main focus. The ranges are the fun, easy drinking and lifestyle Sixpence Range; the classical and food-friendly Estate Range; and the premium Heritage Range with our award winning Carl Everson Chenin Blanc the cream of the crop.

Winemaker
Attie Louw
After graduating with a BSc Viticulture and Oenology degree from the Stellenbosch University in 2006, Attie completed two harvests abroad. His first cellar intern position was in the Rhône Valley at Chateau de Panery followed by time spent in the Yarra Valley at Yarra Burn. After both successful harvests, he returned to his family farm, following in the footsteps of 6 Generations before him. Attie is known for all things Chenin and a string of Platter’s 5-star accolades proves that Attie knows a thing or two about producing top-end Chenin blanc. One thing I’ve learned in the years growing up and working in the wine industry is that wine as a product, the making thereof or the people behind it should not be taken too seriously and the keyword for me in my winemaking philosophy is drinkability.
